"If you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?" (Luke 11:13 NLT)

During the month of June, our minds turn toward Father's Day. When my son, Jace, was born, Father's Day became even more special to me. This is not simply because I could celebrate being his father and the fact that God entrusted Angela and me with Jace's care, but because of how my son's birth affected my relationship with my Heavenly Father.

In the process of preparing to be a good father, I searched the scriptures to establish the biblical pattern of successful fatherhood. What I found in addition to this is that God desires for us to view our relationship with Him as that of a Father and child. God is our King, Judge, Creator, Sovereign Ruler, Master and Lord, but above all He wants us to recognize Him as Father.

Jesus spoke of God using intimate family terms. Jesus called God, 'My Father.' The use of the word Father to describe God was virtually unknown, prior to Jesus' life on this earth. God desires for us to have a personal father/son or father/daughter relationship.

The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans that our Spirit calls out 'Abba Father.' We must allow those words to rise from our Spirit and flow from our mouth as Jesus did, 'My Father.'

Why is this so important? If your view of God is that of some distance relationship, your faith may waver and doubts may arise concerning His care for you. In our lives, if there is something that our child needs or requires that will benefit his or her life, we do everything within our ability to bring that about. As parents, we want to make our children's childhood as happy and fulfilled as possible.

Imagine when you recognize God as your Father, you realize there is nothing that He will not do for you and His ability is unlimited. Glory to God! With God as your Father, you are a child of Heaven.

This Father's Day, recognize God as your Father and thank Him daily for His provision to His family.
