When negotiating with others, do you endeavor to understand the other's perspective or just try to close a deal?

Proverbs relates, "A plan in the heart of a man is like deep water, But a man of understanding draws it out" (Prov. 20:5 NASB).

When negotiating a deal, we often we get so focused on our own perspective that we lose sight of what the other person truly needs.

Share what you are trying to accomplish, and go beyond the details of the deal and understand the long-term goal of the other person.

As you go beyond the details, tremendous creativity may emerge, and you may make the best deals of your business career.
