Have you ever reached that point where you don’t feel like leading anymore?

When I first started in ministry I wanted to quit about once a week. As I matured it was just once a month. Now it is only once or twice or year that I think about putting up the white flag.

My Pastor, Mac Hammond, is one of the best leaders I know. I have learned so much about leadership by simply watching Mac Hammond. Pastor Mac shared these un-leadership principals at a recent leadership conference and I thought I would share them with you.

Ten Steps On How Not To Be A Leader
  1. Give very little thought or time to issues of dress or grooming.
  2. Avoid professional development at all costs.
  3. Never study the Bible.
  4. Don’t ever pray. Always delegate it to your wife.
  5. Do little delegating, because somebody else will get the glory.
  6. Avoid new ideas, especially when they come from other people.
  7. Avoid being committed, it makes it hard to escape.
  8. Always have a few excuses in your back pocket. Be an accomplished blame shifter.
  9. Always point out the faults of other people.
  10. Never get hung up on the issue of character.
Whenever I reach that point of not wanting to lead, I pull out this list and remind myself of how not to be a leader.

A better way to get some relief is to grow up some leaders to help you lead. There are some great young leaders right under your nose that are just waiting for someone to mentor them. I’m talking about the kids and teens in your church. Over the years I have trained hundreds of kids and teens to lead and many of them are in full time ministry today. I just recently wrote a curriculum on Leadership. Now you can teach your kids the same leadership principals I have used over the years.
