What is favor? It is something granted out of good will. You can't really earn it, it's just the goodness of God. It's the fact that God is so merciful and loving that He wants to grant you a favor.

Another definition is - a gift bestowed as a token of regard. In other words, God just wants you to know how much regard He has for you, so He does favors for you as a token. The Bible says that the Lord is merciful and gracious and full of compassion. The Hebrew translation of compassion is "disposed to show favors!"

In Genesis 12:1-2 we read, "Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee: And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing. "

Notice that God said, "I will make of thee a great nation." It's obvious that God intends for this man to increase. But, the Amplified version says it this way, "I will bless you with an abundant increase in FAVORS". In other words, God says, "This Covenant will entitle Me to increase you abundantly in My divine favor!"

I don't think we have believed God for favor like we should. We are always asking people, "Would you do a favor for me?" or "Could you do me a favor?" God is disposed to show favors TO US!

When the favor of God goes before you, it opens doors that NO man can shut! It opens doors that men say are impossible to open! The favor of God will change rules, regulations, policies, and even bring down governments, if necessary, to get you through the door God wants you through.

Have you witnessed the favor of God in Your life? Have you had impossible situations where you knew it was the favor of God that brought you out victoriously?

There have been several: instances in my life where I knew it was the favor of God that certain things happen, because no man could have brought this to pass - only the favor of God.

It came to my attention when a friend of mine came to a meeting I was doing, and told me about this situation he was having in his business. It was critical. He could lose everything if God didn't intervene.

So, he asked if I would pray with him. I could have felt sympathy for the man and said, "God, you can't let this happen!" SYMPATHY identifies with the problem and says there's no way out! You need COMPASSION. Compassion acts against the problem.

I sensed sympathy coming up where I started feeling sorry for him, and I rebuked it and said, "No, I'm going to allow the love of God that is shed abroad in my heart to come forth by the Holy Spirit" and compassion started coming out. I heard myself pray this prayer, and I don't remember ever hearing myself pray this way before: I said to the Lord, "As a favor to me, intervene in my friend's behalf." It was just prompted by the Holy Spirit.

In less than a week, he called me and told me that God had supernaturally turned that thing around! And I remembered how I prayed, and I thought, "Wow, I didn't know that I carried such weight with God." But we do!

You "carry weight with God", and it's not because you're so good, it's because Jesus is so good. He has made you the righteousness of God, and He loves to show FAVOR where His children are concerned.

If one of my children came to me and said, "Daddy, I need a favor," I can't imagine a time when I've ever said, "No!" They came asking a favor because they know I'm disposed to show favors. God is a "pushover" where His kids are concerned. God's not trying to keep things from us. He is disposed to show favors.

Now, there are some people who say, "I just don't believe you could increase in favor." Well, in Luke 2:52 it says, "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature and in FAVOR with God and man." Don't tell me you can't increase in favor when Jesus did!

Some people say, "That's Jesus - that's not us!" Do you have the ability to increase in wisdom? Yes! You don't have to remain simple. Proverbs says, "Oh simple one, how long will thou be simple. " Obviously, you can increase in stature, can you not? Well, if you are entitled to increase in wisdom and stature, then why would God say, "Now the favor is only for Jesus"? If you can increase in wisdom and stature, then you can increase in favor. Praise God.

I have realized that the favor of God will work for you not only in spiritual things, and not only in life and death situations, but the favor of God will go before you and cause the very desires of your heart to come to pass. God even wants to get involved in your hobbies.

I was in New York City not too long ago, and some friends of mine that live near the city asked me if there was anything I wanted to do while I was there. We did some sightseeing, and I wanted to see where he works on Wall Street, so he took me to work with him - and that was an experience!

Then they asked, "What do you want to do now?" I said, "Surely there's a place in New York City that sells my favorite suits where I won't have to pay the world's price for them." They told me they didn't know of a place that carried those suits.

So after we ate, we were coming out of the parking garage, and we were just preaching to one another. We turned to the right and realized that we were going the wrong way - so we stopped and turned around and right in front of us was a store that sold the suits I was looking for and on the window it said "SUITS - HALF PRICE!"

So, I bought my suits for half price! Then my friend said, "Tomorrow is Saturday, is there anything you want to do?" I said, "Well, when I was growing up, I was a Yankee fan, and I loved Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford, Yogi Berra, and Roger Maris. I always dreamed of going to a Yankee game when I was a kid." I said, "Now, I know all those guys don't play anymore, and I couldn't name two people who play for the Yankees today, but I always wanted to go to Yankee Stadium."

He said, "Well, I don't even know if they're in town, but I'll check."

He came in my room later and said, "I don't believe this! I called a friend of mine who loves the Yankees, and not only are the Yankees at home tomorrow, but this man is a season ticket holder, he has box seats right over third base, and he would love for you to come and be his guest. And guess what else? It's old timers day!"

I said, "I don't doubt it, I've got favor all over me!" I had a seat right over third base and could almost touch Mickey Mantle, Whitey Ford and Joe DiMaggio. I got to watch the old Yankees play in Yankee Stadium! You call that a coincidence? I call it FAVOR!

God gave me the desire of my heart, and He did it exceedingly abundantly above all I could ask or think. Could you stand some more favor in your life today?

If you are up against battles right now and you have done everything you know to do, and you're not getting anywhere then call on the favor of God! Say, "God, I need a favor!"

The favor of God on your life enables you to win battles that are impossible for you to win in your own strength. Psalm 5:12 says, "For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield."

The Amplified says, "...as with a shield you will surround him with goodwill (pleasure and favor)."

Psalm 89:17 (Amplified) says, "For you are the glory of their strength and by your favor our horn is exalted and we walk with uplifted faces."

When the favor of God is upon you, you can walk with your head held high even in life's storms, because somehow - some way you know the favor will take care of it and turn the adversity into a victory!

How Do We Position Ourselves to Receive Increased Favor in Our Lives?
  1. Make your ways line up with God's Word. Psalms 119:58 - "I intreated thy favour with my whole heart: be merciful unto me according to thy word."
  2. Listen to God's instructions and determine to obey them. Proverbs 8:33,35 - "Hear instruction, and be wise, and refuse not... For whoso findeth me (instruction) findeth life and shall obtain favor of the Lord."
  3. Walk in integrity and be merciful. Proverbs 3: 3-4 - "Let not mercy and truth forsake thee... so shall thou find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man."
  4. Diligently seek and do that which is good. Proverbs 11:27 - "He that diligently seeketh good procureth favour... "
  5. Never lose your zeal for revelation knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 13:13-15 - "good understanding giveth favour... "
I encourage you to believe for an abundant increase in the favor of God that it will go before you and open doors that men say are impossible. Confess this every day over your life: "My Covenant calls for an abundant increase of the favor of God in my life!"
