There are two types of inheritances. First is the inheritance we receive at the death of a loved one. If we were listed in their will we receive according to that will. We may inherit money, furniture, property, etc. These are the benefits of this inheritance. Psalm 103:2-5 describes the benefits of our inheritance when Jesus died for us:
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits; who forgives all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from destruction, who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.
What great benefits! Jesus died and we received an inheritance. And unlike with a natural inheritance, Jesus rose from the dead to see to it that His will is carried out in our lives.
There is a second type of inheritance. This is what we receive from our parents when we are born. We may inherit their eyes, ears, hair, nose, etc. We inherit their background and ancestry. The way we think and act is developed through our contact with them.
Now that we have been born into a new family we have a new background. Our ancestry is no longer just our earthly forefathers. Our ancestry is now God Himself. He is our background. We are born into His family. He is our inheritance and we have received His nature, His DNA.
The more we are in contact with Him, the more our thinking and attitude is conformed to His. We have stepped into a new race of people. We are now a part of a holy nation — a new nation of people born of the blood of Jesus. First Peter 2:9 says, “But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light” (NKJV).
The more of a reality this becomes to us, the more we will live as true heirs of God. Whatever physical problems we might have inherited from our natural family no longer have authority in our bodies. And we now possess the nature of this new family.
Divine health is passed on from our Heavenly Father. His nature of super-abundant supply can overcome any physical deformity or malfunction that may have been passed down through our natural families. God’s power is more than enough, and that power is abiding within us.
Take hold of a new concept of your Heavenly Father. He has made His extravagance and abundance available to you. He is not holding back from you. “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom” (Luke 12:32).
