It’s A Wrestling Match!

by Tim Davidson | Featured Devotions

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

(Eph. 6:12)

The word “wrestle” implies that we are involved in this contest. God doesn’t say He will do this wrestling for us. Jesus has already won our victory over the devil and his crowd. We realize this triumph in our lives as we wrestle these defeated foes in Jesus’ name.

The Message Bible says: “This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life-or-death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.”

What is the object of a wrestling match? One opponent is trying to put the other one down and gain an advantage to defeat him. That’s exactly what the devil is trying to do to you: put you down. These unseen spiritual forces are trying to put you down, make you depressed, get you to give up while he walks all over you.

But the simple truth is he just can’t do it if you won’t allow yourself to be put down. Keep standing!

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I wrestle against spiritual darkness by believing God’s Word and by taking my stand.
