Perfect Or Forgiven?

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”

(1 John 1:9 NASB)

One of the benefits of believing on Jesus is that He forgives all our iniquities. All we have to do is to confess them and He forgives them. “Confess” means to acknowledge our sin and agree with God that what we did was wrong. When we do that, Jesus will always be true to His Word.

The Message Bible says: “On the other hand, if we admit our sins—make a clean breast of them—he won’t let us down; he’ll be true to himself. He’ll forgive our sins and purge us of all wrongdoing.”

Christians aren’t perfect, nor do they do things perfectly. Yet, even though we sin, we can do the thing that Jesus tells us to do next and confess our sin and He cleanses us by the blood and makes us right in His sight.

Whenever we fail we must openly admit that we have done wrong. As we walk in the light Jesus has given to us, He takes care of all our shortcomings, missed steps and transgressions. Perfect? No. Forgiven? Yes.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

When I realize that I have walked out of light and into darkness, I confess my sin and Jesus forgives and cleanses me.
