“Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.”
“Save them to the uttermost” means entire and complete. That is, Jesus not only died for us to be saved and go to heaven, but He also saves us continually in this life as well. He saves us from sin, sickness, destruction and wrong thinking, and from ourselves. He does this because Jesus lives forever at the right hand of God to plead with God for us.
The Message Bible says: “He’s there from now to eternity to save everyone who comes to God through him, always on the job to speak up for them.”
There’s an old phrase that shows Jesus’ love and intersession for us. It’s “He saves from the gutter most to the uttermost.” It doesn’t matter where we’ve been or what we’ve done—Jesus’ love covers the expanse of all time. From the beginning to the end He saves all who believe on Him to the uttermost. Even me. Even you.
Jesus is able to save me today from all my troubles to the uttermost.
