Stay Calm When Confronting a Mistake

by Steve Marr | Articles, Business

When a staff member messes up big time, do you react loudly and angrily or give a measured response?

King Solomon instructed, “The words of the wise heard in quietness are better than the shouting of a ruler…” (Eccl. 9:17 NASB).

Studies have demonstrated that people listen more effectively to calm words than to loud outbursts.

At times, I have needed to take a moment to calm myself before confronting a blunder.

Explain the situation, the result of the mistake and the consequences that will apply to future offenses.

Your demonstrated follow through on discipline is much more effective than a temper tantrum. Keep calm as an effective leader.
