The Annual Review

by Steve Marr | Articles, Business

When conducting that annual review, do you maintain a positive demeanor when you confront performance issues?

King Solomon instructed, “There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing” (Prov. 12:18 NASB).

No one likes to be criticized during performance reviews. When confronting performance issues, keep three principles in mind.

First, cover the positive part of the job performance. Next, be objective when discussing opportunities for improvement. Avoid stating how you feel, but state objectively what needs to be improved.

Then, keep your demeanor kind, helpful and positive.

Staff will then respond more positively.
