During the time when the Hebrews were delivered out of Egypt, they were delivered out of Egypt as a result of the power of the blood of the physical lambs that were slain. They had a problem when they were in Egypt. The problem was this: Pharaoh would not let them leave.

Remember the movie "The Ten Commandments"? Well, that movie is loosely based on the Word of God, but there are some truths in it. The bottom line is this: God told Moses, "Take My people out of Egypt and into the land of promise."

Moses went to Pharaoh and said, "Let my people go." Pharaoh said, "No, I will not let your people go." Moses then proclaimed that God would put a plague on the land unless the people were released. Pharaoh would not agree. So, the plague hit the land of Egypt. Everybody was distraught.

However, Pharaoh hardened his heart all the more and refused to let God's people go. Over and over through these plagues the people were not allowed to leave Egypt until the tenth plague.

In Exodus 8:15 it says, "But when Pharaoh saw that there was relief, he hardened his heart and did not heed them, as the LORD had said."

So Pharaoh's heart was hardened and the plagues just kept on coming. Here is a listing of the ten plagues:
  1. The water of the Nile River turned into blood. (Exodus 7:19-21)
  2. Frogs overran the countryside (Ex. 8:5-6)
  3. Lice infested man and animals (Ex. 8:16-17)
  4. Swarms of flies covered the land (Ex. 8:24)
  5. Disease killed the livestock of Egypt (Ex. 9:6)
  6. Boils and sores infected the Egyptians and their animals (Ex. 9:8-10)
  7. Hail destroyed crops and vegetation (Ex. 9:22-26)
  8. Swarms of locusts covered the land (Ex. 10:12-15)
  9. Darkness covered Egypt for three days (Ex. 10:21-23)
  10. The Egyptian firstborn and the firstborn of all those in Egypt, both people and their animals, were destroyed by God's death angel (Ex. 12:29-30)
The tenth plague is the one that knocked Egypt and Pharaoh to their knees. The tenth plague caused great mourning in all of Egypt. Pharaoh finally said, "You've been wanting to go? Go!"
