I think a lot about young people today and the huge effect they face emotionally. I saw pictures recently in the paper of a teenage guy who got shot in the face. He was getting out of the hospital and you cannot even imagine the emotional scars that a situation like that could cause.

Not just the outward scars but the emotional scars. I started thinking about the stuff that we go through in life and how it tries to affect us and God wants to change some of that.

God does not want us going through life with emotional baggage.
God's whole being lives in Christ, that is, in His body. And in Him, who is the Lord of all rulers and powers, you have a full life.
(Col. 2:9-10 Beck)

Now may the God of peace himself sanctify you completely and may your whole spirit, soul and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful and will also do it.
(1 Thess. 5:23)
Here we have two passages of scriptures that clearly say that we are three parts—spirit, soul and body.

You are a soul, that is the real you. The spirit is the life-giving part from God. And you live in a body. When you go to heaven your body stays here. Your body is not you. Your body is your earth suit.

Your body is what you crawl around in. The real you goes to heaven. When Jesus comes back we are going to get a resurrected body. These bodies are going to change and become eternity compliant.

When we get rejected, hurt or wounded in our heart we try to compensate emotionally.
- Spencer Nordyke
In other words, you will be changed and get a resurrected body. When Jesus was raised from the dead His body was resurrected. Everyone in the past who died and has known Jesus is in Heaven.

They do not have a resurrected body yet. They are souls flying around in Heaven. Your soul looks like you, but it is not overweight. (Praise God!)

When you get dressed in the morning what do you use to get dressed? Your arms and your hands, right? When you eat food what do you use to eat? Your mouth, your hands, and your arms, right?

Everything working together. Everything works together to get the job done. If you did not have an arm you would have to make an adjustment. Everything else on your body would have to compensate.

Let's talk about your soul. Luke 4:18 says,
The spirit of the Lord is upon me because He has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, he has sent me to heal the brokenhearted.
Apparently this is important to God because it is the first thing that Jesus was sent to doto heal broken hearts. In the same way, if a piece of you were cut off, you'd have to compensate; it is the same emotionally.

When we get rejected, hurt or wounded in our heart, we try to compensate emotionally. How about when you went with that guy or that girl and they broke up with you? You probably emotionally compensated for that.

You do not act with child-like innocence in approaching another relationship next time. You are a little more street smart and you understand a little more about how this twisted world works and what can happen if you do not go into a situation with your eyes wide open.

So you put your defenses up and you have got your walls up. That is why you cannot just walk up to somebody and say, "Hey I like you, do you like me?"

Instead you send a note"I love you, do you love me? Circle one." And you wait in anticipation in getting the note back. If the note comes back and says"Who are you?" Then you experience rejection. That is just one little area of your life.

Look At Home
Lets talk about your home life. Do each of you remember the day you woke up and puberty set in? Suddenly everything was different. Some of you may have become scared and wounded because your parents made fun of you.

How about if you have been physically abused by someone? What about if you have been sexually abused by someone? You did not know what was going on? You do not act whole because you are not whole. You act like something is missing.

When you start a relationship with someone else it is only half of you, because you have been wounded emotionally. Jesus has the anointing and ability to heal broken hearts.

Colossians 2:10 says that in Jesus dwells all the fullness of God. Then it says you are complete in Him. There is an ability from God to take care of all of the things on the inside of you.

Sometimes we underrate our emotions because it is not obvious that they are wounded, bruised and hurting. On the inside it is not all-together. Any relationship you have with anybody from that point on is not going to be a full and complete relationship because it is only going to be a part of yourself.

Jesus Wants You Whole
When you are full and there is fullness in your life there is not room for any harsh reactions. But when you are only partly full then the reaction gets more severe. What does Jesus want you to be? He wants you to be full—to be whole. That is what He came to do for you.

I have a candy bar—milk chocolate and sugar. Now, do you like candy bars? If I took a bite of it, it would not be whole. It has been used. Do you still want a bite?

Not only is it not a whole candy bar, but it is used. That's like a lot of people I know.

Never forget that God made you—spirit, soul and body. If a part of you is used, misused, broken then you are not whole.

Jesus wants to make you whole. He has the ability to make you whole.
