Walk into a room without any windows or lights and strike a match. Light has suddenly become the dominating force. This force of light is the life of God we now have abiding in us.
Colossians 1:13 says, "Our Father God has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control, power and dominion of darkness. He has transferred us into the Kingdom of the Son of His love."

Our Heavenly Father did a 360-degree turn with us. We were walking in darkness, controlled by this darkness and we weren't even aware of it.

The word darkness means several things. It means: to be in darkness of error, dimness, obscurity, shadiness, blindness and to be full of darkness.

This was the condition we were in before we received Jesus as Lord and Savior...full of darkness.

This situation would be like walking around inside a room without any light at all. Imagine stumbling around the room, not knowing what was ahead of you, or to the sides of you, or behind you. You'd be full of fear; you might even sense that there is something in the room with you, but you'd be unable to see or touch it because of the darkness.

We didn't know what direction we were walking in because it was so dark! We were controlled by this darkness. It had a superhuman influence and authority over us.

Like The Flick Of A Switch
But in a moment's time, the Light of the life of Jesus Christ came into our hearts as we answered the call to come to Him.

All darkness was dispelled that quickly. The power and dominion darkness once had over us was gone—vanished, annihilated, dispelled—because light is superior to darkness.

Light is always greater than darkness.

Walk into a room without any windows or lights and strike a match. Light has suddenly become the dominating force. This force of light is the life of God we now have abiding in us.

When darkness tries to prevail in our lives, it can't unless we allow it, because it no longer has power over us. The force is with us; the life of God. Hallelujah!
In Him (Jesus Christ) was Life, and Life was the Light of men. And the Light shines on in the darkness, for the darkness has NEVER overpowered it (put it out or absorbed it). This Light illuminates every person.
(John 1:4-5,9)
We often ask how people can do the terrible things they do: murder, assault, rape, or sexually or verbally abuse other individuals—even their own family members! This is horrifying and uncomprehendable to us.

But that's the kind of power darkness has over those without the life of God in them. Just as these ungodly ways no longer have dominion over us, they control those without Christ in their life. These people walk in darkness, powerless over these things.

What's worse is they don't even know it. They probably think they are fine.

Consider this passage in Ephesians:
And you hath (He made alive), when you were dead (slain) by your trespasses and sins.

In which at one time you walked habitually. You were following the course and fashion of this world, were under the sway of the tendency of this present age, following the prince of the power of the air. You were obedient to and under the control of the demon spirit that still constantly works in the sons of disobedience, the careless, the rebellious, and the unbelieving, who go against the purposes of God.

Among these we as well as you once lived and conducted ourselves in the passions of our flesh, our behavior governed by our corrupt and sensual nature, obeying the impulses of the flesh and the thoughts of the mind (our cravings dictated by our senses and our dark imaginings). We were then by nature children of God's wrath and heirs of His indignation, like the rest of mankind.
(Eph. 2:1-3)
Did you ever notice how light draws insects to it. Turn on your porch light at night as you leave to go out and when you return, try to get in your house without every kind of bug and moth coming in with you.

The world without Christ is like a bunch of insects. They are stumbling around in the darkness. Matthew chapter five says says,
You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do men light a lamp and put it under a peck measure, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. Let your light so shine before men that they may see your moral excellence and your praiseworthy, noble, and good deeds and recognize and honor and praise and glorify your Father Who is in heaven.
(Matt. 5:14-16)
The only way the world is going to see and meet Jesus is through you and me. Don't let darkness have dominion over you in any way, any longer. It is powerless in your life now. "Ye are our epistle written in our hearts and known and read of all men" (2 Cor. 3:2).

That means that the way you conduct your life ought to be like a letter from God, that all men can see and read in order to find out about Him and His character.

Let your light shine out to a world in darkness so they can see that there is hope for them, just as there was hope for you. Walk in the Light!
