Proverbs 6:16-19 says:
These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
Have you ever heard of preventive medicine? The reasons some people take vitamins or other supplements is to aid and assist the body in staying healthy and to prevent certain deficiencies within. God’s Word can also be taken in daily as preventative medicine and will most definitely prevent deficiencies on the inside and out.

The information here mentions someone who “sows discord” among believers. Proverbs actually lists six things God hates. And it says seven things are an abomination to Him. Why are there six things God hates, but seven are an abomination? Abomination means that there is something that God really hates, to the point that it disgusts Him.

Then He names them… 1) A proud look, 2) A lying tongue, 3) Hands that shed innocent blood, 4) A heart that devises wicked plans, 5) Feet that are swift in running to evil, 6) A false witness who speaks lies, 7) One who sows discord among brethren. Other names for someone who sows discord are bearing tales (being a talebearer); bearing false witness; being a busybody; a tattler; or a gossip or a gossiper.

Which one of these seven things is it that God hates more than the other six? I believe it is the seventh item on the list, which is “One who sows discord among the brethren.”  Discord means lack of agreement among people, tension or strife resulting from a lack of agreement, or dissension.

One who sows “discord” is someone who deliberately goes from person to person causing a conflict or argument. Proverbs 26:22 says, “The words of a talebearer are like tasty trifles (desserts), And they go down into the inmost body.”  Sowing discord is the practice of shattering lives with slanderous words.

When referring to a talebearer, this word comes from an unused root word meaning: to roll to pieces; a slanderer:—talebearer, whisperer, or someone who sneaks around and preys on others.

Proverbs 6:19 noted “A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren” back to back. A false witness means; a person who deliberately gives false testimony or false information. It also is someone who has lied or who lies repeatedly.

What does it mean to gossip? Is gossip when you tell something good about what someone else does? Of course not.  It is when someone tells things about another by revealing a confidence, or with the intent to “sow discord.”  Proverbs 11:13 says, “A talebearer reveals secrets, But he who is of a faithful spirit conceals a matter.”  The Greek calls a talebearer a scandalmonger, as in one traveling about intending to reveal the secrets of another.

What if you need to share what someone did to you with a counselor? Share it in confidence. But you should not start calling person after person telling every one else. Be careful who you talk to. Ask yourself, “Do I have malicious intentions in my heart?”  “Am I trying to discredit or harm the reputation of others?” You may say, “But they are discrediting me!”  Practice forgiving others first; you will discover God’s strength in you to be able to hold your tongue.

So, how do you handle someone who “sows discord among other believers?"

Jesus said in Matthew 18:15-17:
Moreover if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault between you and him alone. (Only one other person is involved at this point). If he hears you, you have gained your brother. But if he will not hear, take with you one or two more (How many more?), that ‘by the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.’ And if he refuses to hear them, tell it to the church.”
Does it mean to blab it to all the church members? No! Take it to the church leadership, only as a last case scenario.

"These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him:” Lets all avoid being “one who sows discord among brethren” and may we always be conscience of being “dispensers of a new covenant” (2 Cor. 3:6 AMP). …Think about it!
