Maintaining Our Nation's Christian Foundations
We have a wonderful Christian heritage, but what of the future? September 11th, 2001 changed our world forever! We have no guarantee that the peace and prosperity we now enjoy will continue. We have radical, ungodly forces at work, everything from secular humanistic forces, to radical Islamic terrorists. New challenges appear every day from proposing same sex marriages to the melt down of the financial system. I believe we have one hope to continue to be blessed and to remain at peace and harmony. And that hope lies in the prayers of the people! But the priority of our prayers should be for our government and leaders. First Timothy 2:1-3 explicitly says:
First of all, to pray for all people. As you make your requests, plead for Gods mercy upon them, and give thanks. Pray this way for kings and all others who are in authority, so that we can live in peace and quietness, in godliness and dignity. This..pleases God our Saviour.
(1 Tim. 2:1-3 NLT)
I urge you to make a quality decision to make time every day to pray for your nation. But what difference could one person's prayers possibly make? James 5:17 says:
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth for three years and six months.
God's Word compares us to Elijah and how just one man impacted his generation through prayer - just one man!

Christians And Politics
Some Christians have fallen for the secular lie that the Church is not supposed to be involved in politics. The truth of the matter is just the opposite; there are over 1700 scriptures dealing with civil government! The separation of Church and State was designed to keep the State out of the Church, not the Church from the State!

Charles Finney
The church must take right ground in regard to politics. Politics are part of any Christian nation and thats because of the stewardship aspect. And Christians must do their duty to their country as part of their duty to God. God will bless or curse this nation according to the course that Christians take in politics. (Finney Lectures XV, page 281).

Prime Minister Alfred Deakin
God preserve this people and grant its leaders unselfish fidelity and courage to face all of the trials for the sake of the brotherhood. Thy blessing has rested upon us here yesterday and we pray that it may be the means of creating and fostering throughout all Australia, a Christlike citizenship. (Alfred Deakins Prayers 1890).

Abraham Lincoln
It is the duty of nations, as well as of men, to own their dependence upon the overruling power of God and to recognize the sublime truth announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations only are blessed whose God is the Lord.

Former Prime Minister John Howard
We can be thankful that we are a society that respects all religions, while continuing to respect our own history and our own traditions. In Australia, Christianity has been an enormous force for good, shaping not only the individual lives of people but also the character of our nation. The spiritual depth of the Australian community has had a profound influence on the stability and strength of the values we share.

Martin Luther
I will not let go of you God, until you give me Germany!
The Bible -The Basis Of Our Government
Civil government originates from the Bible, its a Bible doctrine. Isaiah 33:22 talks about the branches of government.
For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our king; it is he who will save us. (NIV).
These principles of our democratic government all come from the Bible, not some other religion; they are Judeo-Christian principles. There are in fact over 1700 Bible verses dealing with civil government.

What Does The Future Hold?

The average age of the worlds greatest civilizations has been about 200 years. Most of these nations progressed through the following stages until their demise. Will this be our future also?

From bondage to spiritual faith. From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty, from liberty to abundance.
From abundance to selfishness; from selfishness to complacency.
From complacency to apathy; from apathy to dependency.
From dependency back into bondage! (author unknown).

The Most Powerful Position In The Land
So my questions are, when is the last time that you prayed for your nation, or your leaders? Do you love your nation enough to spend time interceding for your homeland? It's not enough to leave it to others; God requires it of all of us! People say, "But what can I do to see my nation blessed?" I have said for years, the most powerful position in the nation is not Parliament House in Canberra, the United Nations or Washington D.C,  its on our knees making earnest prayers to the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords, interceding for your nation!

Let me challenge you again to make the decision to pray daily for your nation and its leaders.  Then, and only then, will we see the Lord move and heal our land. Then God will bless us and we will prosper and live in peace!
Let the people praise thee, O God; let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase; God has bestowed His blessing upon us, let every corner of the earth revere Him.
(Ps. 67:5-7)
Our prayers, yours and mine, can make a difference.
