“Then those who feared the Lord spoke to one another, and the Lord listened and heard them; so a book of remembrance was written from Him for those who fear the Lord and who meditate on His name” (Mal. 3:16).
This verse testifies to an unusual outpouring of God’s grace and favor upon a group of people who served Him with their hearts in the midst of a society inclined to rigid legal code.
Three activities mentioned in this verse assure us of access to this same grace and favor: 1) speaking to one another, 2) fearing the Lord, and 3) meditating on His name.
- Speaking to one another
- Fearing the Lord
This word fear does not refer to nervous compulsion or a guilty conscience, but to reverential awe, of being afraid of displeasing the Lord. According to Isaiah 11:2, this is one of the seven Spirits of God. It is available and desperately needed today. All we have to do is to pray and we as individuals, a family, or a church will receive this reverent Spirit. - Meditating on the name of the Lord
The powerful, majestic, glorious name of God became the object of these people’s meditation.
Don’t you enjoy the fellowship of other saints when the conversation is about the Lord and His doings? The Lord took notice of such conversation and rewarded it.
Because they did these things, the Lord wrote a book of eternal remembrance for His people. He will do the same for us: we can make history by applying this verse.
