“Moreover you shall select from all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens” (Ex. 18:21).
There is a biblical standard for those who are to be rulers over people. According to Exodus 18:21, rulers should be:
- Able men who fear God
- Men of truth who hate covetousness
Whether they rule over a few, or whether they rule over thousands, the standard is the same. God requires a high standard for men who rule over men.
In the United States of America, as citizens we have been given an awesome responsibility. We have the choice to choose our leaders. However, it is a dual responsibility.
We have the responsibility of our citizenship here on earth to choose leaders and we have the responsibility from God to choose leaders who meet God’s criteria.
With this in mind, we must understand this. If we do not choose leaders who are able men, who fear God, who are men of truth, and men who hate covetousness, we are being disobedient to God.
Sadly, most Christians don’t vote. But what is even worse is that surveys tell us that of the people who do vote, the vast majority, including Christians, do not vote for a leader because of his godly character, but instead vote for the candidate that will bring the most personal benefit.
To do this tells God very clearly that we are more interested in maintaining our kingdom instead of maintaining His.
God tells us in His Word that we have choices placed before us. All choices, whether secular or spiritual, must be made according to God’s desires. In reality, all choices are ultimately spiritual and we will be required to give account for the choices we make.
God will not give you a “free pass from judgment” because you went along with your favorite political party. We have the ability to choose life or to choose death. Every vote we make or fail to make is extremely critical.
To not acknowledge the truth and stand up for it is condoning the lie. Jesus said in John 8:32 that the truth would set us free. Align yourself with the truth and vote.
