“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again” (Luke 6:38 KJV).
I am going to show you today God’s plan for you to prosper. This may be a refresher to you. So lets just refresh ourselves on what God has promised us about our giving.
God’s plan for giving and receiving is found in what Jesus says in Luke 6:38. Notice what your job is. Your job is to give. But then notice what Jesus said would happen when you give. It shall be given unto you. He didn’t say it may be given, nor did He say there is a chance it will be given. He said it shall be given.
It says that out of your heart you have given to somebody. And somebody is going to give unto you. But notice He doesn’t just say if you give He is going to give back to you. He gives us more information. What is that information? He tells you how it will be given back to you: Good measure pressed down shaken together and running over shall men give into your bosom.
I can’t think of a better illustration of this verse than the one that my father, Bishop Keith Butler, uses. It is like doing the task of raking leaves. You rake those leaves and then put them in a large yard bag. You eventually fill the bag up. That’s good measure.
And then what you usually do is press those leaves down so you can put some more in there. That’s pressed down. And then after a while you still run out of space so you start to shake it up a little bit. That’s shaken together. And then eventually what happens is you could just keep putting those leaves in there until the bag starts running over. That’s the overflow.
And that is exactly what Jesus has said. You will give unto God and God is going to make sure it is given unto you good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over.
In other words so much will be given to you that you are going to have a bag full, and then more will be on the way. Then you are going to have to press down what you have to make room for more. And then more will still be coming to you. So you are going to shake it up because you have to make a little bit more room for more. And eventually you will get to the point where you have it running over. You will have overflow.
