Healing has been a part of my life for a long time. Once I got the revelation on walking in health, I’ve been free from sickness ever since. I’ve had some great opportunities to get sick, but I’ve resisted every one of them. I remember this one time especially.
Cathy was out of town, and I had the whole house to myself. That meant that I had to do all the cooking. Now, Cathy doesn’t cook when she is home. We have pots and pans that are all clean. We have china and crystal that are untouched. You ought to see them because that’s all you can do – just see them.
So when I got hungry, I had to get creative. I had to look around for something that was ready to eat, and the only thing I could find was a can of Vienna sausages in the pantry. I hadn’t eaten Vienna sausages in ten years. Ten years is a long time.
Now, you can tell that Vienna sausages are really, really healthy. You can tell that just by looking at the stuff. It’s got all that Vienna jelly all over it. I tried to take the jelly stuff off, but it wouldn’t come off. It’s really slippery, but I finally got one of those suckers out of there and looked at it. I thought to myself, I didn’t like this stuff ten years ago, and I still don’t like it. I ate that one Vienna sausage and threw the rest of them away.
Well, a long time later I was getting ready to go to bed. You see, I don’t go to bed until the early morning hours, around 1:00 or 2:00 A.M. I’m a night person. So at about one in the morning, I got ready for bed and started to pray. I said, “Lord, I just thank You for today,” before I went to bed. God said, “You might want to pray a little longer.” “No, I think I’m going on to bed, Jesus.” I said.
Well, when I got into bed, the bed started moving on me. It really felt strange. I couldn’t handle that, so I went into the bathroom. Now, in the bathroom there’s this stained glass thing over the bathtub. And when I looked at the stained glass, it started moving too.
First the bed was moving, and then the stained glass was moving too. I felt like I was dying. I haven’t felt that bad in fifteen years. I mean, I couldn’t lie down, I was panting, and I was almost passing out. Sweat broke out all over my body, and the devil started telling me, “This is it, Jack. You’re going to die with a Vienna sausage in your mouth!”
“That’s a lie,” I told him. I had to start fighting the devil to keep my healing. Then it dawned on me to turn to Jesus! I turned to Jesus on the inside of me and started to pray. I laid hands on myself and tried to pray between gulps of air: “Jesus-gasp-heal-gasp-my-gasp-bo-gasp-dy!”
And do you know what? I began to breathe better. Healing came to my body. In fact, I felt so good I went jogging just to prove to the devil that I was healed. And when I came back, do you know what the Lord said to me? He said, “Go read what that can of Vienna sausages says.” I found out after checking the expiration date that the can of sausages really was over ten years old, and it was my own dumb fault for eating them in the first place. But God healed me anyway.
You see, God will heal us when we make mistakes. He just wants you to be in health. God told us that it’s His will that we prosper in all things and be in health (3 John 2). God is on our side. He doesn’t want us to be sick or suffer.
That’s why Jesus healed me that night. After that He told me, “The next time you eat something, read the label first. And don’t eat anything in your pantry. It’s all old!”

With no booking agents pursuing meetings for him and no set fees imposed upon churches for speaking engagements, Jesse chooses his outreach meetings based on the same two criteria he always has: invitations that come in and prayer over each one. This uncommon way of scheduling in today’s world means Jesse’s many followers may find him speaking in some of the largest churches and venues in America and the world, as well as a great many small and growing congregations, too. No church is too big or small for the Holy Spirit, as he says.
Side by side with his wife Cathy Duplantis, the co-founder and chief of staff of Jesse Duplantis Ministries and the senior pastor of Covenant Church in Destrehan, Louisiana, Jesse continues to fulfill his life’s calling by daily taking up the Great Commission of Jesus Christ: “Go ye into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). Through social media, television broadcasts, books, and other ministry products, as well as through many evangelistic meetings, the JDM website, the JDM app, and Voice of the Covenant magazine, Jesse Duplantis continues to see growth in his ministry and expand each year while maintaining his roots. Jesus is the center of his life. The salvation of lost people and the growth of believers is the purpose of his ministry. And for both he and his wife, every day is another day to “Reach People and Change Lives, One Soul at a Time.”
