Because He Loved Us

by | Uncategorized

“But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.” (Deut. 7:8 KJV)

Now you may ask the question, “Why would a holy God who is the Creator of man enter into a covenant with man? Why would He lower himself that way? Why would He tie Himself to mankind for all generations?”

Well, Deuteronomy 7:8 simply says, “But because the Lord loved you….” It’s simply because God loved us that He would make a covenant with mankind for all generations.

Now we’re not talking about the kind of love a man and woman have for each other. We’re talking about God’s unconditional love for us, which motivated Him to enter into and keep covenant with man forever.

Look at verse 9, because it outlines for us what we should know about our covenant-making God. First it tells us, “Know therefore that the Lord our God, He is God. He is our faithful God, which keeps covenant….” So then we can conclude that God never breaks His promises.

The Word says that God keeps covenant. So when you find something in the Word, then you can stand on it because you know it will come to pass.

Secondly, not only does God keep covenant with us, but He also keeps mercy with them that love him and keeps his commandments. Notice how long this mercy extends—to a thousand generations. Thirdly, notice what shall come to pass for those who keep His commandment:

  • He will love thee and bless thee: or He will empower you to prosper.
  • He will multiply and bless the fruit of your womb. This covenant promise is for our children also because we keep God’s Word.
  • He will bless the fruit of thy land. That means your business is going to go prosper.
  • Also, thou shall be blessed above all people. And rightly so, because Christians are supposed to be blessed above all people.
  • And there shall not be a female barren among you. So, if you are married God’s covenant is that you don’t have a barren womb.
  • And the Lord will take away from thee all sickness. You shall walk in divine health.
  • God’s covenant covers all of these benefits and more just because He loves us. It was love that motivated God to enter into covenant with mankind, so walk in covenant with God and be blessed.
