Circumcision of Christ

by | Devotions, Featured Devotions

And in Him you were also circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, in the removal of the body of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.

(Col. 2:11 NASB)

The Jews had a formal procedure of cutting the flesh to symbolize separation from the rest of the world and union with God. In Jesus you were circumcised, not with cuts made by human hands, but the circumcision made in our heart by Christ Jesus.

The Message Bible says: Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It’s not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you’re already in–insiders–not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin.

Just as circumcision removed flesh from the body, so Jesus has removed our selfish desires. The result is we are freed from the power of sin by the work of God and not our effort; and we are in union with God. Let yourself image the possibilities that exist because you are free of sin and its consequences in your life.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Jesus cut off my sinful and corrupt nature through true Christian circumcision.
