“Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth.”
John is writing about the new commandment Jesus gave us—to love one another. It is a true command from God, for it is seen in Christ and it will also be seen in us. As we walk in the light of this Word, all the dark works of Satan are dislodged and made homeless.
The Message Bible says: “On the other hand, perhaps it is new, freshly minted as it is in both Christ and you—the darkness on its way out and the True Light already blazing!”
It doesn’t take a lot of effort on our part to clear darkness out of a room. All we have to do is turn the light on and darkness flees immediately. As we comprehend this love commandment, we see all the darkness of sin and unbelief fade from our lives as the light of God’s Son floods our soul. Shine Jesus shine.
I have a new commandment of love from Jesus. Today I will walk in it and darkness will flee from me.
