“For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eatheth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body. For this cause, many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep” (1 Cor. 11:29-30).
One way we can look at Paul’s warning about “not discerning the Lord’s body,” is as it refers to our discernment of others in the body of Christ.
Some Christians say, “We have more revelation than anyone else in the body of Christ. If you aren’t one of us, you don’t have anything.” These people want to criticize others and put themselves on a level above everyone else.
That’s a bad position to be in. A church like that is not rightly discerning the body of Christ and will be full of sick people who don’t receive their healing.
Those of us who have received the fullness of the Holy Spirit have to be careful about this kind of prideful attitude. We aren’t on a level above anyone else. We only have more responsibility. You see, when we understand what God’s Word says about healing, faith, and confession, the way is opened for us to receive more benefits.
We need to walk in love toward fellow Christians who haven’t received as much revelation of the Word as we have. When we look down on other believers, we do not rightly discern the body of Christ. Judging others will always give us trouble, because everyone in the body of Christ is important.
Jesus’ blood was shed and His body was broken for all people. Each
person is important to the Lord! I will not judge another in the body
of Christ. I will pray and intercede so that we all may be healed.
