“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
Evidence is what a lawyer presents during a trial to prove his point. Evidence is the proof of things and the assurance of their reality. Faith is the evidence of things not seen. Faith perceives as fact things that are not yet revealed to our eyes or any other of our senses. Faith convinces us of the existence of things we cannot see.
The Message Bible says: “The fundamental fact of existence is that this trust in God, this faith, is the firm foundation under everything that makes life worth living. It’s our handle on what we can’t see.”
How could I prove to my neighbor that I indeed did have a new car, if it wasn’t in my driveway because my wife had driven it downtown? I couldn’t point to my driveway because my driveway doesn’t give evidence of my new car. I have to point to the title deed in my pocket.
Because of what was written on that paper, every court in our land would confirm I own a new car. Likewise, our faith is our title deed to all the things we can’t see yet. For us, what is written in the Bible is our bill of sale.
My faith gives evidence to the things not yet seen. God’s Word is my title deed.
