Filled With The Holy Spirit

by Tim Davidson | Featured Devotions

“And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

(Acts 2:4)

It was the day of Pentecost and the disciples of Jesus were waiting for the promised Holy Spirit in an upper room. Suddenly there was a noise from heaven like the sound of a powerful wind! It filled the house where they were meeting.

Then they saw what looked like fiery tongues come and settle on each one. The next thing that happened was they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began speaking whatever tongues, or languages, the Spirit enabled them to speak.

The Message Bible says: “…and they started speaking in a number of different languages as the Spirit prompted them.”

The infilling of the Holy Spirit was accompanied by an array of signs and confirmations of the Spirit’s power and presence. The Spirit filled them and they spoke with tongues as He gave them the words.

God has provided the Holy Spirit to be our comfort and guide. When He fills us, He wants to use us for the glory of God.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

When I am filled with the Holy Spirit God will give me new tongues to speak too.
