Kids have influence. Many of our kids are great video game evangelists. When they play a game that they like, they tell a friend. They use their influence to get their friend to purchase the game.
This month many of our churches are gearing up with special events for kids and families surrounded by a message of salvation. What if our kids not only knew how to invite their friends to church, but knew how to close the deal. What if they knew how to pray the prayer of salvation with their friends?
I believe that they can learn how to lead others to the Lord. But not if we don’t train them how. It is our responsibility to give them the tools and equip them. You can do that by imparting into them a heart for the unchurched and the confidence of walking through the two steps outlined in Romans, Chapter 10.
Give them a heart for the unchurched.
This does not come naturally for kids that have grown up in church. Most of them see unchurched people as the enemy. “The kids that Mom doesn’t want them to hang with.” They really don’t understand that there are billions of people in the world that do not know Christ. I give kids this understanding in two ways. I teach on it and I ask people to share testimonies that did not grow up in the church. Storytelling is a great way for kids to connect with experiences that they have not had.
Teach kids how to pray the prayer of salvation with others.
The prayer of salvation is two steps. It is found in Romans 10:9, “If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
There are two things that are included in this prayer.
Believe in you heart that God raised Jesus from the dead.
Say with your mouth that Jesus is Lord.
Allow For Practice Time.
After teaching on it, I have the kids practice on each other. We keep doing it until every child knows how to pray this prayer. This gives them confidence that they can lead another child to Christ. The more confidence they have they more they will talk about Jesus to their friends.
