God Will Always Have a Witness

“Obey and be blessed.” Ever since God first delivered Israel out of Egypt, He continued to send His prophets to the people to deliver that central message. But, as Jeremiah 7:25-28 says:

Since the day that your fathers came forth out of the land of Egypt unto this day I have even sent unto you all my servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them: Yet they hearkened not unto me, nor inclined their ear, but hardened their neck: they did worse than their fathers.

Therefore thou shalt speak all these words unto them; but they will not hearken to thee: thou shalt also call unto them; but they will not answer thee. But thou shalt say unto them, This is a nation that obeyeth not the voice of the Lord their God, nor receiveth correction: truth is perished, and is cut off from their mouth.
(Jer. 7:25-28)

This scripture confirmed something about the character of God that I had already learned. I saw that God kept sending prophets daily to His people, knowing that the people would not listen. That’s how good God is!

God will always give a witness to every generation, even if He knows the people will not hear Him. He will not be guilty of having blood on His hands when the end comes. He sends people His Word, and they make their own choices whether to receive or reject it.

You see, God isn’t looking for a way to keep people out of His family. He’s trying to get more covenant people into His family. He wants more people who are born of Him—more sons and daughters. He told Abraham that all families of the earth would be blessed in him. God desires to give His witness to every nation and individual in this generation.

That thrills me. When I think of how faithful God was to give His witness to Israel and how much He has wanted to do good to His people in every generation, it makes it easy for me to believe that God will have compassion on me when I’m in trouble. That is just the way He is. He is full of mercy and goodness.

God had to have a witness, so Jeremiah kept prophesying the same thing to his hostile countrymen for 40 years. God will always do His part because of His great mercy, and one aspect of His part is to give people an opportunity to hear and obey.

The patience of God is so unfathomable. All He wanted was to be God in His people’s lives. “Just let Me speak to you,” He told them. “Let Me make your path straight. Let Me tell you what to do, and it will be well with you. You’ll be blessed in your doing. You’ll increase. Your seed will be blessed.”

But the people of Judah said, “No, we don’t want to do it that way, God.”

And people are still saying that. “No, Lord, I just don’t see how I can do what You’re telling me to do.” When someone says that, he is hardening his heart. He is refusing God, and trouble is coming. That person won’t be able to avoid the consequences of disobedience, because when God speaks, His words never fail to come to pass.

As believers, we are God’s witnesses on the earth today. We are to proclaim the good news to those in the world who live under the curse. It is our responsibility to tell them, “The kingdom of heaven is here. You can live in it. You can operate in it. Jesus paid the price for you. He redeemed you from the curse of poverty, sickness and spiritual death. You can be delivered out of darkness into the light of His abundant life!”

Now, the people we talk to can either take the truth or leave it. But that doesn’t change our responsibility to proclaim the gospel. We have to be willing to keep on proclaiming, even if no one receives what we’re saying. That’s a lesson we learned from Jeremiah—and he lived in a day when people received God’s words much less easily than they do today!

If the people receive the truth and act on it, faith comes into their hearts and they are immediately translated out of darkness into light. Then it’s up to them to find out what belongs to them and begin to act on it so they can grow up and become strong in the Lord.

God told Ken and me to start a daily television broadcast in 1988. At the time, we were about $1 million behind on the Sunday broadcast. Going on a daily broadcast didn’t seem like a good solution to that problem! But God’s leading was so strong that we did it anyway.

We certainly weren’t looking for anything else to do. But God told us to get on television daily to give people the opportunity to hear the truth of the Word of God. And I believe God would have told us to launch the daily broadcast even if He knew no one would ever listen. That’s how faithful He is! He is determined to give His witness.

We’ll never know in this life all the people who have had a witness from God through the daily broadcast. It goes all over the world now. It’s even in Eastern Europe and other places where people are hearing the Word for the first time in their lives.

One woman who lives in a remote city of the Ukraine was miraculously healed as she watched our broadcast. Earlier she had gotten saved while watching another Christian television program. She had never heard the gospel preached before she watched that broadcast. Her city is so isolated that at the time it didn’t even have one church!

All of this woman’s life, she had suffered from a huge growth on her back that kept her from walking straight. Then one day she saw our Believer’s Voice of Victory broadcast.

Later she testified to some Christian workers who visited her home, “As I watched Kenneth Copeland, he suddenly looked at me, pointed his finger and said, ‘You’re healed!’ When he said that, I believed it—and the growth on my back burst and disappeared!” That woman heard the Word, acted on it in faith and received her miracle!

That’s why you can’t always judge the success of ministry outreaches by dollars and cents. God didn’t say, “Go be a witness as long as it is a financial success.” He just said, “Be a witness.”

We’re down to the last of the last days. God wants to do some mighty things to get His witness to all flesh—and I guarantee you, He will get them done! He will find someone who will be the witness He desires for any particular spot or individual on the face of the globe.

There has never been a more important hour than right now to live as part of the Church. God has a set time for the return of Jesus Christ, and He has determined, “Before that time, I will have My witness throughout the earth.” You can count on that getting accomplished—and I want to help Him do it!

This is no time to hold back on what God is telling you to do. It may be the biggest assignment you have ever had. It may look impossible to you. But if God said to do it, put your foot in the water and do it! Be a part of God’s witness to this generation!
