Healing in the Atonement

by Mark Brazee | Uncategorized

But on the morrow all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron…and the Lord spake unto Moses, saying, Get you up from among this congregation, that I may consume them as in a moment….

And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put fire therein from off the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement for them: for there is wrath gone out from the Lord; the plague is begun. And Aaron took as Moses commanded, and ran into the midst of the congregation; and, behold, the plague was begun among the people: and he put on incense, and made an atonement for the people. And he stood between the dead and the living; and the plague was stayed. Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand and seven hundred
(Num. 16:41,44-49)

Numbers 16 gives us another portrait of our redemption. Soon after the Israelites were delivered out of Egypt’s bondage, they began to worship idols and criticize the men of God in charge. Their muttering and complaining put them on dangerous territory.

It is clear that God was more than a little upset with these rebellious people. A plague hit the multitude, and more than 14,000 died before anything could be done.

Aaron quickly prepared incense to make atonement before all the people died. He ran into the midst of the congregation and stood between the people and the plague. Atonement was made for the people, and the plague was stopped.

This is a portrait of the Atonement Jesus made for us. You see, when Aaron made atonement for the sin of the Israelites, they were not only forgiven, but the sick were healed.

Well, if healing was included in atonement under the old covenant, how much more is it included in the Atonement Jesus purchased for us by His blood?

Confession:
Jesus is my Atonement. His sacrifice gives me
access to all of God’s benefits and blessings.
I receive them now by faith in Jesus’ name.
