“And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth.”
(Isa. 53:9)
God laid every sin you’ve ever committed; every thought of sin; on Jesus while He was on the cross. That is what separated Him from the Father for the first time ever.
But notice that Jesus did not stop on that cross. Sin was not all that you and I were going to have to bear. We would have to deal with eternal death, which is hell fire, unless somebody paid the price for us. Hell is not a vacation spot. And He’s not talking about Hail, Michigan. He’s talking about a place of eternal damnation. You may say, this sure sounds serious. Yes it is. But I want you to know some good news is at the end.
Jesus is there in the very pit of hell suffering for you and me. But then in the high court of heaven, God the Father begins to speak, and He says, “Thy throne O God…” (Heb. 1:8). Elsewhere in the Scripture it said it rumbled there in hell. It was like an earthquake.
Picture it. The demons were partying because they thought they had Jesus. But then they hear these words that shake the walls of hell! “Thy throne O God is forever!” Satan goes, “Uh oh. I’ve heard that voice before. That’s the voice that kicked me out of heaven. And He’s speaking again.”
God said, “Therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (Heb. 1:9). And when the Father said, “Anointed thee….” the Holy Ghost said, “Yeah, that’s my que.” And the Holy Ghost energized Jesus. And Jesus began to make a wreck out of all of Satan’s imps.
I wish I could have been there to see that beating. But I want you to know the folks in Abraham’s bosom saw it. Moses and Abraham saw it. David saw it and began to dance out of his clothes. They began to praise God as they saw the victor begin to conquer. Oh, thank God for that victory! He took off the very vesture that Satan trusted in. Then He said, “I am the Victor. I am the Conqueror.” And now, because He conquered, He made you more than a conqueror.
