Jesus Will Save His People

by | A Verse A Day

“She will bear a Son; and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.”

(Matt. 1:21 NASB)

The very reason that Jesus was born was so He could save us from our sins. The plan of salvation that God consummated in Jesus required that Jesus redeem mankind from their ungodly fallen state and restore them to intimate fellowship with God.

The Message Bible says: “She will bring a son to birth, and when she does, you, Joseph, will name him Jesus—’God saves’—because he will save his people from their sins.”

Jesus had to provide a means for mankind to shed their sinful-core nature and take on the sin-free eternal life nature of God the Father. He accomplished this by first becoming as we are, flesh and blood, and then, as our substitute, He died for us once and for all.

Our sin nature was actually laid upon Him when He went to the cross. His sin-free nature can now be laid on us through the new birth. As a result, eternal life is now ours for the taking.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I am very thankful that Jesus is my savior and He has saved me from my sins.
