Justice or Mercy?

by | Uncategorized

“And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother’s blood crieth unto me from the ground” (Gen. 4:10 KJV).

We have a blood covenant with God, who will never break His covenant. In fact, He will destroy Himself before he will break his covenant. That covenant was signed in blood, sealed in blood, and that blood was the blood of Jesus. But before Jesus came, we were required to pay for the sin we committed.

Adam and Eve taught their sons, Cain and Abel, to offer sacrifices to the Lord in tithes and offerings, giving God the best they had (Gen. 4:3-5 KJV).

However, Cain’s offering was not the very best. But Abel “…brought of the firstling of the flock and of the fat thereof.” Fat thereof means the richest part. So he brought God, first of all a tithe and an offering. He brought Him the first and then the richest part. Well Abel, having done what God required, was respected over Cain.

Cain’s offering was not received. He was very upset because God accepted his brother’s offering. Then God tells him that the reason why he is not doing well is that he was about to slip over into sin, because he has a wrong heart. He is not putting God first. But God admonishes Cain that sin is going to end up dominating his life if he doesn’t judge himself about how he handles himself before God.

Sadly, Cain does not judge himself and things happened just as God had said. He kills Abel. But much to Cain’s surprise, Abel’s blood told all to God. Abel’s blood had a voice that cried out to God; it proclaimed unto God that Abel’s blood was on that ground. Abel’s blood was crying out for vengeance, justice, and revenge. He wanted to be avenged for what had been done to him. Later we find that God did avenge Abel’s blood.

There is justice in heaven – the blood of Jesus. And that blood is crying out love and mercy just for you. Your sin is now forgiven. However, you still must judge yourself when your actions don’t line up with God’s Word. But know that when you receive Jesus as Lord, in the place of vengeance you can receive mercy.

You are forgiven and justified by the blood of Jesus. He looks past all your sin and receives you as His own, as though sin had never existed in your life. His blood cries for mercy for you in the earth.
