Let’s Not Act in Haste!

by | Devotions, The Spirit Filled Believer

“Whoever believes will not act hastily” (Isa. 28:16 NKJ).

It is too late in the day for rash action. You and I have been serving the Lord too long to begin making snap judgments, jumping to conclusions, or becoming impulsive. This promise is an assurance that we can avoid the mistakes that come from impatience or acting on impulse.

If you have a history of precipitating crises by acting too hastily, would not this be a good day to begin overcoming that tendency? Remember: “He that believes shall not make haste.”

One of the things that helped me in this area was the discovery that most of my hasty acts occurred because I did not have all the facts. Later, after all the needed information had surfaced, then I regretted my premature action.

In 1 Corinthians 4:5 the Apostle Paul encourages us “to…judge nothing before the time…” (NKJ). Then we will be fully cognizant of what is going on and can act with confidence and assurance.

Another cause of hasty action is frustration. We like to see things happen. but when everything seems to be standing still, we get impatient. We feel that a slight nudge will get things rolling. We try to hurry up God’s plan.

In so doing we create a new set of problems. This verse was placed in the Bible just for those of us who could easily take things into our own hands and try to “get on with it” – only to botch things up worse than if we had done nothing at all.

Note Psalm 37:5: “Commit your way to the Lord, trust also in Him, and He shall bring it to pass” (NKJ). You might want to add these three verses to your active vocabulary. If so, do it today.
