Newness Of Life

by | A Verse A Day, Devotions

Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

(Rom. 6:4 KJV)

We are told here that when we were baptized in water, we died and were buried with Christ. Then as Jesus was raised up from death into new life by the glory of God the Father, we also are raised up in Jesus into a new, sin-free Christian life. What are the possibilities for us now? Living free of the past gives us newness every morning.

The Message Bible says: When we are lowered into the water, it is like the burial of Jesus; when we are raised up out of the water, it is like the resurrection of Jesus.

We weren’t literally, physically there dying with Jesus. But Jesus so identified Himself with fallen man that His death, burial and resurrection where done by One man for all mankind. Therefore we can now so identify with Jesus that His life and freedom are ours through our union with Him. Wow.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

I was buried with Jesus in baptism and raised with Him in glory and I now walk in newness of life.
