Recipe for Heaven in the Home

by Shelli Brim Baggett | Uncategorized

Our scripture text, Psalms 128:3 reads,”Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides (in the HEART of) thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.”

In the Hebrew “by the sides” is translated, “in the heart” of your house. Think about that. You, dear wife, You, dear mother are the heart of your home. What a wonderful responsibility.

Even the world has picked up on this tremendous fact. “If Momma ain’t happy, ain’t nobody happy.”

So how do we stay happy? How do we keep from having “heart trouble” in our homes? Lets look to the recipe book, the Word of God.

Keep your heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Put away from thee a forward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee. Let thine eyes look right on, and let all thine eyelids look straight before thee; Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be established. Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.
(Prov. 4:23-27)

When we put away from our mouth words of doubt, deceit, and darkness and fill our mouths with words of faith, love, and strength, then the first big step to a happy home is accomplished.

Notice in verse 24, a disciplined mouth is our responsibility. Too bad there’s not a great big heavenly angel to do this for us. However, we do have a helper: the Lord Himself! Hallelujah!

James 1:26 says, “If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart…” There it is again, “words and heart.”

To have a happy, healthy heart is to speak happy, healthy words.

E.W. Kenyon says it this way “Govern your tongue, so that it will say nothing that will injure anyone around you. Practically all the injury that is done to a character, to a business, a home, or a person, is done with words. It is tongue work.

“The person who can govern his temper, his tongue and his appetite, though he has but mediocre ability, is bound to get to the top. Gaining the mastery of these will be among your first real victories!”

Practice speaking. Learn to talk in line with God’s Word. Every precious second counts.

Say to your children: “You are such a blessing. You’re valuable and precious to God. You can do all things through Christ. Do everything to his glory and success will pour upon you like a river. I see you in faith and love. And your mother loves you!”

If Jesus spoke to trees, and He is our example, then surely we can speak to our walls.

Say to the walls of your home: “Heaven’s in my home; God’s love is here. Depression leave. In the Name of Jesus, I have no fear. I have no worries. I’ve cast all my care upon Him, and He cares for me. Glory of the Lord, fill each room with joy and peace and purity!”

You’ll find heaven filling your home. And your heart will be lifted in joy!
