“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4 NKJ).
Part One
It takes spiritual weapons to be able to engage in spiritual warfare. God has no place for spiritual pacifists. Personally, you may be a peace-loving person, but the fact is you have an enemy whose hatred for truth and righteousness knows no bounds.
David described this adversary well when he said of his companions: I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war (Ps. 120:7). He also urged all those who love the Lord to hate (resist) evil (Ps. 97:10).
Someone once said that we Christians were born for battle. Someone else has urged us to get out of the “romper room” and into the trenches. One speaker I heard told all the believers within the sound of his voice to get off the charismatic love boat where it had been all fun and games and get onto the Christian battleship and start shelling Satan’s strongholds.
We are not going to a religious playground or a sports arena. This is not an Olympic tournament we are engaged in. It is a grim, bloody, no-holds-barred conflict that pits light against darkness, truth against error, good against evil, the forces of God against the minions of Satan. Since we are on the Lord’s side, our triumph is assured. Our victory is past, present, and future: We have won, we are winning, and we will yet win (2 Cor. 1:10).
This lesson is one of six in which we will examine what this conflict is all about, name the weapons God has placed at our disposal, and claim the assurance of our total victory in the final outcome.
