This is one of my favorite times of the year. I love to review what’s been accomplished and thank God for His goodness while dreaming and preparing for the coming new year.
God has so much more for you to be, do, and have. So many times though we place limits on Him; we dream ordinary dreams, and determine to what extent He can bless us and move in our lives.
With God, there is no such thing as average and ordinary. He doesn’t provide just enough or barely enough. He is a good Father and wants to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think when we take the limits off.
Today’s the day to lift your expectations and believe for more. Have the audacity to believe big, dream big, and expect God to do big things in your life.
Now, in order to experience big, super-sized dreams it’s essential that you discover how to prepare for them.
Years ago, Rodney and I made an appointment with a builder to begin designing our dream home. The first thing he asked us was, “What do you see?” He expected us to expound upon the images, architecture, and design of our dream house. Instead, I said, “I don’t know.” He said, “You don’t know what you want?” Then, he said three powerful words: “You’re not ready.”
We weren’t ready to live in our dream. We weren’t ready to build our dream. We weren’t ready to move beyond where we were. And we were going to stay where we were until we got ready. Ouch!
What if God “The Architect and Builder” met with you tonight at 10:00 to see what you want to achieve in 2016? Imagine Him asking,”Show me what you want? What does a successful year look like to you? What do you want Me to do for you next year? What’s your heart’s desire?”
Would your response be like mine was, “I don’t know?”Would He have to say, “You’re not ready. You say you want to pursue your dreams, but you don’t know what your dreams are. Come back when you’re ready.”
You’ve got to enlarge your vision to begin seeing on the inside what God says is possible even when your circumstances say it’s not.
Another way you prepare for the dreams God has for you is to write them down. I think Habakkuk was the first to understand the whole vision board idea. Look at The Message translation of Habakkuk 2:2:
“And then God answered: Write this. Write what you see. Write it out in big block letters so that it can be read on the run. This vision-message is a witness pointing to what’s coming. It aches for the coming-it can hardly wait! And it doesn’t lie. If it seems slow in coming, wait. It’s on its way. It will come right on time.”
God wants you to HAVE A VISION and KEEP IT CLEARLY WRITTEN BEFORE YOUR EYES. Why? Because it keeps you focused. One of the most powerful things you will ever do is grab a pen and paper and start writing your dreams and goals.
I love this story about amateur fighter, Jon Jones. He had the audacity to begin confidently signing his name as the “UFC Champ 2011” years earlier. In an interview, he was asked how he could boldly sign his name as the future champ. He said, “Me signing my signature with Champion 2011 can’t hurt me. It could only help me to believe it even more.” Jon Jones became the youngest champion in Ultimate Fighting Championship history in May 2011.
You probably have some big goals you would love to accomplish next year, but have no idea how they could ever come to pass. That’s great! Pray and believe God for things that STRETCH your faith! If you can accomplish all your dreams and goals in your own strength then you don’t need God’s help. He wants your total dependency on Him.
I want to ask you to do two things during this last month of 2015 that I believe will position you to have the greatest year in 2016 you’ve ever had: (1) Invest in yourself. (2) Invest in someone else’s dream. When you give your finances to help a ministry achieve their dream of helping others, you strategically put yourself in a position for God to help you achieve your dream. It’s the law of sowing and reaping.
God never forgets a seed sown. He responds to bold faith when you put your total dependency on Him.
Remember, take the limits off, dream as big as you can, and God will go beyond that!
