“The chiefest among ten thousand” (Song of Solomon 5:10).
Part One
How could anyone ever exhaust the list of titles given to Jesus Christ? It is so easy to use words from the Bible that describe Him.
One time I was struck with an affliction that had all the earmarks of polio. Five symptoms surfaced in me calling for immediate action. My wife called the hospital to find out how to get me into a portable iron lung. At the same time Jesus appeared to me for a brief moment. He looked right at me, and with an understanding and knowing glance transmitted healing virtue to me. I was immediately set free from whatever it was that had struck me down.
That appearance of Jesus has given me a great sense of respect, appreciation, and admiration for Him. As a man, I unashamedly want to tell the whole world that I love my Lord with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.
Someone has enumerated from the Bible 365 names that can be used to describe Jesus (rock, door, sword, shepherd, etc.). This means that every single day of the year we can employ a new name to recall the beauty, the greatness, the majestic splendor of the Son of man.
Nowhere in scripture are we instructed to love the Lord with any kind of emotion or feeling. We are commanded to love Him with agape love – the kind of selfless love that is not based on emotion or sentiment. Those who love the Lord can choose to do so by an act of the will.
No one ever needs to feel awkward or uncomfortable worshipping, praising, and loving Jesus – the chiefest among ten thousand!
