“There was the hiding of his power” (Hab. 3:4).
Jesus did not work miracles on demand. When the Pharisees demanded a sign from Him, He refused them. I have often wondered, if Jesus were here today, would He be featured on the TV newscast? Would He be front-page news? Would He be visible for the whole world to see?
Miracles have two kinds of effects on observers. For those who love the light and the truth, those who have a heart inclined toward the Lord, miracles are a great source of encouragement and wonder.
For those who hate the light and the truth, those whose hearts are hard, miracles are a source of skepticism and antagonism. When Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead, those who had talked of killing Jesus now added Lazarus to their hate list (John 12:10).
The same sun that melts wax, hardens clay. Jesus conceals His power and hides it from the view of the bored, the disinterested, the unbelieving, and the skeptical. His power is available only to those who believe:…these signs shall follow them that believe… (Mark 16:17).
Do not equate miracles with crowds. You can have a power ministry and still be concealed from public view. God may release through you all the miracles in the sign-gift ministries and yet choose to keep you hidden from the media. There is the hiding of His power.
