The Gift Of Life

by | A Verse A Day, Devotions

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

(Rom. 6:23 KJV)

When we put our time and energy into a job we expect a paycheck for our efforts. This verse says that payday is coming. Not every job pays off on Saturday. Some jobs don’t pay off until the job is done. Eternal death, or separation from God, is the wages we receive for working for sin. Sin’s wages isn’t always immediately paid out but believe me; sin always pays off with death.

The Message Bible says: Work hard for sin your whole life and your pension is death. But God’s gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus, our Master.

Sin always pays its wages of death, but we don’t have to be in line when payday comes. Jesus took our place and accepted our wages on the cross and then eradicated the penalty of our debt and paid it in full. Living for God is the best job you can ever have.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

Jesus took the payment due me for my sin. The gift of real eternal life is mine through Jesus Christ my Lord.
