“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4 NKJ).
Part Two
The victorious Christian life is called the good fight of faith (1 Tim. 6:12). We are told to endure hardness as a good soldier of the Lord (2 Tim. 2:3). We are also instructed to put on the whole armor of God in order to stand our ground (Eph. 6:11). The whole tone is militant. As believers, our theme song is “Onward Christian Soldiers;” our password is “Victory!”
I am so glad the previous decades of the contemplative sixties and the introspective seventies are over and gone. For too long the focus was on me, my, mine – on looking inward, on pulse-taking to find out if the real person on the inside could or would be able to stand.
Now a survival mentality has set in. A new “get-tough” vocabulary is surfacing. Once again songs about spiritual warfare are being written and sung.
We have, as victorious believers, a “killer” instinct. Ours is not a defensive stance, we are taking the initiative. We do not simply resist doubt, we vanquish doubt. We do not repel fear, we conquer fear. We do not reject poverty, we defeat poverty. We do not renounce sin, we subdue sin.
Armed with our spiritual weapons, we overcome the flesh, the world and the devil, pulling down his strongholds and demolishing his fortresses.
We believers are called to have a winner’s attitude. No general ever sends his troops into battle planning to lose. We who are on the side of truth are destined for the winner’s circle. A winning attitude is vital in spiritual warfare.
