The Joy of the Lord

by | The Spirit Filled Believer

“He who is of a merry heart has a continual feast” (Prov. 15:15).

A feast is more than an ordinary meal. It includes the idea of company, music, entertainment, unusual or special gourmet foods. In general, a feast involves eating plus having a good time.

In our world, we see a great pursuit of “good times.” People are trying so hard to find pleasure and satisfaction. You often hear the question, “Are we having fun yet?” The world is trying to find the right things in all the wrong places.

In John 4:32, the Lord Jesus told His disciples, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.” Our text verse confirms this truth. The Amplified Bible version reads: “He who has a glad heart has a continual feast (regardless of circumstances).”

Believers do not have to spend a lot of money to go to a music concert. They have a song going on inside of them continuously. It is the song of the Lord. Jesus is singing it within their hearts (Zeph. 3:17). Christians don’t have to wait up and hear some stand-up comedian on television tell the latest jokes. They have the joy of the Lord within them giving them a “merry heart.”

When the world comes up with a booklet called “How to Party Every Night of the Week,” the Christian’s response is, “I don’t have to clutter my life with a lot of socializing; I’m so contented serving the Lord that I don’t need partying.”

The joy of the Lord is like a continuous feast. We are not anti-social, just contented and happy. We don’t have to go around looking for what we have already found.
