The Law of Faith

by Larry Ollison | The Cutting Edge

Neither the kingdom of God nor the kingdom of heaven is a place, but rather is a system of government. There is a place called heaven and within that place is a kingdom with rules and regulations on how it operates. In the same way that there are physical laws that govern earth, the laws within the kingdom of God are established and unchangeable. The laws of God are grounded in the Word of God and God does not change. It’s the Word of God that was spoken in the beginning and those words created the laws of the universe.

A nation has laws, but those laws, written by men, evolve and change. However, the Bible tells us that God is not a man and that His Word never changes. The laws of an earthly government are bound by a constitution and the laws of physics are bound by science, but God’s laws are bound by His Word, and His Word is established for eternity. God is the creator of the universe and the ultimate lawgiver.

While the Ten Commandments governed how man’s relationship should be with other men and with God, the laws of the kingdom brought man to a greater level of understanding and spirituality within himself, realizing that as a born-again believer, the kingdom of God is in us. One of these higher level laws is the law of faith.

Romans 3:27 acknowledges the law of faith and 2 Corinthians 4:13 describes how it functions. The spirit of faith, according to what is written, is “I believed and therefore I spoke.” Then our instructions follow by saying that we likewise are to believe and speak. Faith operates through this law. Upon hearing the Word, you must believe it in your heart and once you believe the Word in your heart, you speak the Word of God with your mouth. Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt. 12:34). When you speak God’s promise from a heart that has received His Word and is settled in the knowing, the promise will move from desire and hope into a full manifestation.

We know that it takes faith to please God. But likewise, it takes faith to empower the promise of God and it takes faith to empower God’s promise in your life. We could say that God’s promises are available to every believer, but faith is the catalyst that activates the promise. The promises are available for all believers, but they only work in the lives of those who abide by the law of faith.

To act on the law of faith requires a strong foundation of the promise. This is developed through the repeated hearing and meditation of the promise. This is why we must continually receive the Word of promise. For example, if your need is physical healing, then you must know what God’s Word has to say about healing. Listen to healing scriptures, read healing scriptures out loud, and listen to Word-based teachings on healing. Allow this Word to sink deep into your heart. Taking one vitamin is not enough. It must be a process of daily digesting and building your spiritual strength in His Word.
Living in the law of faith is accomplished through the daily hearing of the Word of God. We believe with a full knowing in our heart, and out of the abundance of that knowing, we speak the promise. And when this law (rule) of faith is followed, then the full manifestation of the promise spoken is the result.

Scripture References:

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? No, but by the law of faith.
(Rom. 3:27)

And since we have the same spirit of faith, according to what is written, “I believed and therefore I spoke,” we also believe and therefore speak.
(2 Cor. 4:13)

So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
(Rom. 10:17)

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
(James 1:22)
