The Place of Fulfillment

by | The Spirit Filled Believer

“You brought us out to rich fulfillment” (Ps. 66:12 NKJ).

This term rich fulfillment is translated from a Hebrew word revayah (rev-aw-yah’) meaning total satisfaction. This word is derived from a primitive root word ravah (raw-vaw’) which means “to slake the thirst,” or “to abundantly satisfy the appetite.”

David lists the trying circumstances he and the people of Israel had to face and how the Lord had led them through all their difficulties. He relates how the enemy had tried to enslave them, to submerge them, to overcome them with fire and flood. But then he tells of the Lord’s gracious dealings with him and his people:

“Because of You, Lord, we are actually better off now than we were before our trial. We held on to Your promises and You fulfilled them all. You gave us the courage to endure, led us through the tests, and then rewarded us by bringing us out to total satisfaction.” (Author’s paraphrase.)

Sometimes a greater insight into a word can be gained by comparing it with other usages in the Scriptures. Revayah appears one other time in the Old Testament: in Psalm 23:5 where David declares of the Lord’s blessings, “…my cup runneth over.” The word translated “runneth over” and “rich fulfillment” are one and the same (revayah). Moisture, satisfaction, and abundance are all embodied in this one word.

Never give up. The effort it takes to get through trying situations is always worth it when you come out to the wealthy place (KJV). Satan wants to discourage you into quitting and missing the blessing. Jesus wants you to persevere, to get past the place of difficulty, and to come out to revayah, the place of fulfillment. The effort is worth it!
