God told the Hebrews to get all the silver and gold. They took it to their houses. God also said He was sending a plague and this plague would kill the firstborn of every household. But, God is a God of mercy and a God of grace. He always makes a way of escape for His people.
Look at Noah and the ark. Because of the vileness of the people of that day, God decided He was going to destroy the earth with water. However, for those eight people who believed in God and were obedient to God and did what God said to do, they were not destroyed. They were delivered out of the floodwaters.
God has always made a way of escape for His people. “And did not spare the ancient world, but saved Noah, one of eight people, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood on the world of the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:5).
The Word tells us in the New Testament that God is never going to allow you to be tempted with something beyond your ability to stand and in the temptation He will always make a way of escape.
“No temptation has overtaken you except such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will also make the way of escape, that you may be able to bear it” (1 Cor. 10:13).
That way of escape has to do with obedience. Obedience is a word that makes some people cringe. Many people want to do whatever it is they want to do, whenever they want to do it.
Once a man told me, “I live in the land of the free and the home of the brave. I am an American. Nobody is going to tell me what to do. I’m going to do what I want to do, when I want to do it and don’t you tell me otherwise.”
There are a lot of attitudes like that. Part of the reason is because of the massive amount of freedom that we have. We must remember, as Christians, we live in a kingdom. In a kingdom, you do what the king says to do and you do it when He says to do it. In a kingdom, the king rules. As Christians we do not live in a democracy, but in a kingdom where the King rules.
