“For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4 NKJ).
Part Five
Another great weapon for winning spiritual victories is the Word of God. It has been likened to a sharp two-edged sword (Heb. 4:12). In Ephesians 6:13-17 where he describes the armor of God, the Apostle Paul calls the Word of God “the sword of the Spirit.”
The other pieces of the armor of God – the helmet, shield, breastplate, etc. – are all defensive elements; they help to protect the Christian against the fiery darts of the enemy. The sword of the Spirit – the Word of God – is the only offensive weapon at the disposal of the believer. With it he can put the enemy on the run.
In Psalm 119:89 we read that the Word of God is forever settled in heaven. God’s final court of appeals. When Jesus quoted scriptures three times during His wilderness temptation, the devil left Him alone (Luke 4:13). There was nothing left for Satan to say; he had no recourse but to go away. When we stand on the scriptures as our basis of faith, we disarm the enemy.
There is no power in the universe that can come against the Word of God with any hope of prevailing. The Word is spoken as a fire, a hammer, a sword, and a weapon. I would urge you to familiarize yourself with as many of the promises found in it as you can. In coming days, a working knowledge of powerful promises from the Lord will be the best weapon you could ever have.
Other books are written for our information. The Bible was written for our transformation and preservation. Oh, precious book!
