There is One Thing Needful

by Deborah Butler | The Anointed Word

“A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another” (John 13:34 KJV).

Jesus is the Anointed One. And that anointing removes your burdens and destroys your yokes. That anointing will set you free in every area of your life.

The way to activate that anointing is to focus on God’s Word, and allow Him to develop your walk with Him. God wants us to be complete in every area of our life. He wants us to be perfect in His love toward Him and toward others. That means we have to learn how to walk in love with the people we don’t like as well as with those we like.

See there are people all over the world, Christian people, who are doing most everything right. It’s sort of like the rich young ruler (Luke 18) that encountered Jesus. He said to Jesus, “Master I have followed the Ten Commandments from the time I was a child.” And Jesus said you have one thing that you need to do.

A lot of us have one thing that we need to do, and that is we need to walk in love, not just with those we like, but also with those individuals we find difficult to love. We say we belong to God…who is the God of love. We say we are just like God who is the God of love. We should therefore walk in love toward those that are seemingly unlovely. That’s being just like God…the God of love.

We need to learn how to love each other. Love is based on the person doing the loving. So if I love Sister Jane Doe and she doesn’t like me, that isn’t going to make me not love her. For me to react to her not loving me is to give her control over my life. I am allowing her to change my character.

We all have the love of God shed abroad in our hearts, and we all have the ability to take that same love and express it to other people. That love is based on who I am and not what someone else thinks about who I am. As a result, I can love someone whether they return love to me or not. The decision to love, in the first place, was not rooted in her. It was rooted in the Word of God.

Jesus the Son of love, the Anointed One and His anointing, is the same (the identical) yesterday today and forever. His anointing is not based on an individual. His anointing is based on who He is. And no matter what you do, that anointing is still available for you.

When we make mistakes or do stupid things, all we have to do is go to Him and confess our sins and He will cleanse us, and put us right back into right standing with God. That is how much He loves us. Show me a human that will do that for you. There isn’t one. But the God of love will.
