Walking In The Spirit Controls The Flesh

by Tim Davidson | A Verse A Day

“This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.”

(Gal. 5:16)

As you walk and live in the Spirit, you will stay responsive to and controlled by the Spirit. The result of this adventuresome walk is that you will, without a doubt, not gratify the cravings and desires of the fleshly human. Most people try to quit walking in the flesh so they can start walking in the Spirit. Paul declares it works the exact opposite way.

The Message Bible says: “My counsel is this: Live freely, animated and motivated by God’s Spirit. Then you won’t feed the compulsions of selfishness.”

To walk in the Spirit simply means to conduct your life according to the input you get from your spirit man. If you are born again, your spirit man is in contact with God and you can trust the impressions you receive.

It’s a matter of choice. It’s a matter of obedience. When you choose to obey your spirit you won’t obey your selfish desires. But if you choose to satisfy the desires of the human nature, you will reap a harvest of trouble. It’s your choice, so choose wisely.

Today’s Thought to Take With You:

As I walk in the Spirit, I don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. As I walk in the flesh, I do.
