“Go in this thy might: have not I sent thee?” (Judges 6:14).
God’s commands are also His enablements. When He says to do something, He imparts the ability to do it. In this verse, He is telling Gideon to go, and to expect unusual things to happen as he does.
The Lord is not saying, “Go, just to be doing something. Keep busy and you’ll stay out of trouble.” Rather, He is ordering Gideon out on the cutting edge of the unusual. The unexpected and the extraordinary are embodied in this little word go.
“Go in this thy might.” In the original Hebrew from which this text was translated, this word is quite unusual. Kowach (ko’-akh) is defined as “capacity, means, substance, wealth, or ability.”
So what the Lord was telling Gideon was, “Go in your ability; I am well aware it is not sufficient for the task I am sending you to accomplish, but don’t worry about that because I am going with you to see that it gets done!”
As Christians, our function in life is very similar to that of Gideon. We too have a special touch of God on our lives. We are not here to duplicate, imitate, or copy anyone else in this world.
By doing God’s will, following His leadings, obeying His voice, like Gideon of old we too are assured of having all the power and resources of heaven behind us. To go is to be guaranteed the glorious presence of the Lord with us. When God goes into operation, phenomenal things begin to happen!
“Take what you have and go where I send you, because as you go I will go with you!” (Matt. 28:20; Mark 16:20).
