Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
(Ps. 119:105 AMP)
How do you know if you are making the right decision? What do you do when facing a crossroads? Be reminded of this simple truth – God’s Word is the lamp we need and through it He will light our path!
It’s really quite amazing! The Lord leads and guides us by His Word – literally! God will always give us direction and confirmation through His Word. We have found over the years that anytime we need to know what path to take, which way to turn, what road to follow – the Lord always gives us a Scripture or two that serves as the direction we need.
Trying to decide what to do next? Who to marry? What job to take? Where to live? How to be healed and healthy? When to make a change? What to do with a particular child? How to handle a difficult situation? How to serve the Lord? God always speaks to us through His living Word. No wonder Jesus said, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” (Matthew 4:4, NIV) We can absolutely live by the living Word that God gives us! That is…if we will esteem His Word enough to spend time reading and listening to it.
I can think of numerous times when I needed God’s Word to direct my steps. In those important times of decision-making, I spend extra time in the Word seeking the Lord for His direction and wisdom. It has never failed; at the right time the Lord quickens a verse of Scripture to my heart and I know I have my answer. At that point, my job is to simply obey His Word and walk it out. It’s an exciting and supernatural way to live! I would have to say that my life is chronicled more by Scripture verses that have guided my decisions than by dates on the calendar. I trust God’s Word more than I trust circumstances, my feelings, great counsel from others or myself. I know God’s Word is a safe guide. It’s an anchor for our soul. God’s Word settles every decision.
If you’re facing an important decision – spend extra time in the Word and let Him light your path. If your life has been a series of missteps and self-made disappointments – spend extra time reading your Bible and allow the Lord to lead you into a good place as He gives you a lamp for your feet.
Say It: Father, You have made it so simple! Thank You that You still speak to us through Your Word. You are still giving direction and guidance. I will spend extra time in Your Word so that I can hear Your voice and obtain the light I need for the decisions and crossroads I face. I pray You give me ears to hear and a heart to receive the lamp of Your Word. In Jesus’ Name. Amen.
