“Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know” (Jer. 33:3 NKJ).
One post-war development of which we are all aware are the giant underground missile silos.
The Hebrew word translated mighty in this verse implies the same kind of invisible sources of power. It has to do with the hidden, the inaccessible, that which is subliminal or below the surface of normal vision. This promise reassures us that if we will but call upon the Lord, He will bring such things into the scope of our vision: “I will show you great and fortified things that up to now have escaped your attention.”
While I was in the service, the Lord began dealing with me about forgiving a sergeant who had been making my life miserable. My chief concern at the moment was an overdue auto payment. The Lord was zeroing in on my need to forgive while I was concentrating on a threat by the bank to repossess the car.
In keeping with my priority list, I kept insisting in prayer that the Lord help me with the car, and then we could discuss the sergeant. God conveyed to me that top priority was an act of forgiveness on my part. Once that issued was settled, then we could talk about the car payment.
The Lord won out. I had a beautiful release of love, joy, and peace as true forgiveness came. At that time, a family member called my attention to a letter on my dresser. It contained more than enough money to make the car payment. The sobering fact surfaced that the letter had been lying there for three days unnoticed. God is thus saying to us here: “Your answer is there; call upon Me, and I will make it visible to you.”
